"In the matter of the United States, appellants

vs.

Sinqua, otherwise called Jose Cinques, Burnah 1st, [C_], Dammah, Fourrie 1st otherwise called Fou-le-wa, Shuma, Wolwah, Conoma, Choolay, Burnah 2, Baah, Cabbah, Poomah, Kimbo, Peeah, Bang-ye-ah, Saah, Carle, Parle, Monah, Yahonie, Nahquoi, Quato, Sesse, Con, Fourrie 2nd otherwise called Fou-le-wulu, Kennah, Larmanee, Fajanah, Faah, Yahboi, Faquannah, Berrie, Fawnee, Chockamaw, Gabbo otherwise called Galabaru, Carre, Teme, Kene, and Mahgru, Africans, being severally claimants and appellees.

How the said several appellees, being in the custody of the Marshal of the District of Connecticut, under process said by the District Court of the United States for said District, on the libel of the United States, acting by the District Attorney of the United States for said District, severally move that the appeal by the United States, -- claiming as by the files and records of said District Court will [appear], in pursuance of a demand made upon them by the Minister of the Queen of Spain set forth in their said libel, -- from so much of the decree of said District Court, as relates to, or affects the said appellees severally, may be dismissed, because they say, that the United States do not claim, nor have they ever claimed any interest in the said appellees respectively, or either of them, and have no right, either by the law of Nations or by the constitution or laws of the said United States, to appear in the Courts of the United States, to institute or prosecute claims to property in behalf of the subjects of the Queen of Spain, under the circumstances appearing on the record in this case; much less, to enforce the claims of the subjects of a foreign government, to the persons of the said appellees, respectively, as the slaves of such foreign subjects, under the circumstances aforesaid.
