Titles: Argument of John Quincy Adams before the Supreme Court -- Part I
Creator/Author: Adams, John Quincy
Description: Part one of John Quincy Adams' arguments before the Supreme Court in defence of the Amistad Africans. He argues that from the beginning of the incident the assumption has been in favor of the Spaniards against the Africans--from Lieut. Gedney's "sympathy" with the Spaniards to the subsequent court proceedings. Adams' also demonstrates why the Treaty of 1795 with Spain is not applicable in this case.
