After being kidnapped or sold into slavery, Africans were transported from barracoons to vessels like the Tecora, which carried the Amistad Africans to Cuba. The embarkation canoe pictured here represents the type of vessel used at Lomboko on the Gallinas River (Illustrated London News, 14 April 1849, p. 237).

Another image from the Illustrated London News, 14 April 1849 is the Slave Barracoons.
