"The Amistad Case," Colored American, Dec. 26, 1840.
THE AMISTAD CASE.--The British Government is interesting itself in this case, and
has demanded their freedom of the Spanish authorities, in case our government should
remand them over to Spain. The British minister at Madrid has addressed a letter
to the Spanish court, insisting upon the fulfilment of the treaty with Great Britain,
by which the slave trade was declared illegal, and in consequences of which, these
Africans are entitled to their freedom. The British government, when they undertake
a thing generally carry it through. They will, undoubtedly, see to it, that justice
be done strictly in this case.
