MEETING IN BEHALF OF THE AMISTAD AFRICANS.--Our public spirited colored friends,
of Wilmington, Del., held a meeting Jan. 19, 1841, of which J. W. Adams served as
Chairman, and J. N. Shadd, as Secretary, to adopt means to aid the committee, in
defending the Africans of the Amistad. A committee of five was appointed to solicit
aid and report at an adjourned meeting. The committee reported at an adjourned meeting
the sum of $30, and the Secretary reported $5 from a friend. Amount $35--which sum
has been placed in the hands of the committee having this case in charge. Want of
room is our apology for giving this synopsis of their proceedings. They have done
well. We hope they will hold a meeting to assist us.
