"Amistad Exhibit at Peale's Museum and Portrait Gallery," New York Commercial Advertiser, 23 June 1840.

PEALE'S MUSEUM AND PORTRAIT GALLERY--Broadway, opposite City Hall.

The re-engagement of the AFRICAN CAPTIVES, captured on board the long low black schooner Amistad.

In consequence of the crowd of visitors that have witnessed the extraordinary exhibition, and the urgent desire for its continuance by several who have not yet had an opportunity to see them; the manager has engaged them for a few days longer.

The exhibition gives the accurate likeness of 29 of the Africans, in wax figures.

These are not fancy pieces, but executed from casts, or moulds, taken from the faces of the Africans, by S. Moulthrop, of New Haven--by means of this process, a perfect exhibition of the form of each face, embracing every wrinkle, &c., is given. Among the figures there is a representation of Burna saving the lives of Ruiz and Montez.

Portraits of the surviving Africans, drawn from life, to each of which is attached their history.

A pamphlet, giving the History of the Amistad Captives, the circumstances of their capture, the judicial trials had on their case, &c., can be obtained at the place of exhibition.

Fancy Glass Working during the day and evening, by Mr. Owens.

Piano Forte, Mr. S. W. Bassford.

Price of admission to all Entertainments, and Museum, 25 cents. Children half price.
